Dougie, I thought KDU 497N had always been a 16 valve car I thought Ken had another KDU car, I will try to find its reg number. I know he was well respected at the factory which meant he was one of the first to use a TR7 in rallying. I would love to see more of the cars as I followed his career in Motoring News, in the early 80s.
Chris, Sorry got the reg wrong it was KDU 487N he owned> I just looked at one of the pics!!
I can't remember much about this car as it was before my time. I only know from photos and what my father has spoken about. This was his first TR after his mini it was originally from the factory (not abingdon though) Birmingham he thinks!! It was originally a transmission test car with an eight valve and a four speed box. He then converted to a 16 valve sprint engine, five speed with a salisbury axle.
For sale: five 13" steel rims from a 2.5PI, in great condition. Also four Stag 14" steel rims, but pretty rough and will need shotblasting/pow dercoating. If interested, please PM (JimEB) and I'll email pictures.
